Carlos Noronha Feio 17.06.21 – 31.07.21 Inauguração 14h – 20h, 17.06.21 A 3+1 Arte Contemporânea inaugura em Junho de 2021 no fim de tudo está o começo, a negociação!, a mais recente exposição individual de Carlos Noronha Feio na galeria. A prática artística de Carlos Noronha Feio espalha-se através de diversas disciplinas e suportes – pintura, escultura, vídeo, instalação, tapeçaria, e desenho – tendo como base a pesquisa filosófica em torno de temas como a identidade, o nacionalismo, a cultura local e global, dispositivos e construção de significados. O seu corpo de trabalho é caracterizado por se desenvolver em estrutura rizomática, onde as várias séries de investigação e trabalho procuram defender e desenvolver a ideia maior vez de uma coerência imediata e com brevidade temporal. As suas séries procuram ser expansionistas, criando pontos de conexão entre si, justaposições ou momentos de revisitação. É neste sentido que surgem as mais recentes pinturas e esculturas apresentadas na exposição No fim de tudo está o começo, a negociação!, com texto curatorial de Alistair Hicks. Recuando a séries de pinturas desde 2015 até agora, o artista tem vindo a desenvolver certas questões formais, nomeadamente da noção de dispositivo e estratégias de construção da imagem através da manipulação da composição, da mancha e do traço. Estas pinturas, por fim desconfinadas da moldura e da imagem fotográfica, ao contrário das suas precedentes, dilatam para fora da tela com o acrescento de elementos esculturais – vidro, luzes neon e esculturas metálicas – que fazem-nas expandir do plano bidimensional ao espaço tridimensional. Com esta exposição individual, Noronha Feio soma assim à sua vasta investigação sobre a construção de ideias e significado visual, apresentando também em paralelo uma exposição análoga no Quarto 22 do Colégio das Artes de Coimbra intitulada o peculiar é um detalhe no todo comum. (at the end of it all there’s the beginning, the negotiation!), the latest solo show by Carlos Noronha Feio at the gallery. Carlos Noronha Feio’s artistic practice spans through various mediums and supports – painting, sculpture, video, installation, tapestry, and drawing – having as groundwork philosophical inquiries into themes such as identity, nationalism, local and global culture, dispositifs and the construction of meaning. His body of work is distinctively developed in a rhizomatic structure, whereby different series of research and work seek to defend and establish the bigger picture in lieu of an immediate coherence or chronological brevity. Noronha Feio’s series look to be expansive, creating points of connection between them, juxtapositions, revisitations. Within this framework emerge in the exhibition at the end of it all there’s the beginning, the negotiation!, his most recent paintings and sculptures, with curatorial text by Alistair Hicks. Backtracking to series of paintings from 2015 until now, the artist has been delving into formal matters such as the notion of dispositif and of strategies of image construction through composition building via marks and strokes. These paintings, at last unconfined from the frame and the photographic image unlike their predecessors, expand outside of the canvas through sculptural elements – glass, neon lights and metal sculptures – that shift them from the two-dimensional plane into a three-dimensional space. With this solo exhibition, Noronha Feio broadens his research on the construction of ideas and visual signification, additionally presenting a parallel exhibition titled o peculiar é um detalhe no todo comum at Quarto 22, Colégio das Artes (University of Coimbra) in Coimbra.
