The Mighty String’s infectious Caribbean melodies, smile-inducing lyrics, and heart-warming stories will transport you to another world. The scary person sitting next to you becomes your best friend, your cheeks hurt from laughter and the only way to calm down is to skip home flailing your arms above your head like a five-year-old who has just found out where mummy hides the chocolate biscuits. 


A songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and bandleader based in Lisbon, he is known for his charming stage presence, hilarious songs and spontaneous audience participation. The Mighty String is giving new life to the art of Calypso.


Performing on tours with songwriters Jimbino Vegan and Jolly Longfellow inspired String to explore writing his own original material. Fuelled only by an eight-hour-long Calypso playlist, and more pasta than a Sardinian grandmother churns out in a decade, The Mighty String began writing songs during the first COVID-19 lockdown. He set about depicting the world around him through the lens of a Calypsonian.

“When I write I strive to make the bizarre beautiful. I want to celebrate the simple things in life that we overlook when we are busy living in the modern world. I try to seek out humanity in situations where it is not so obvious and I want to create an atmosphere where it is safe to laugh at ourselves and the world we live in.”


Currently The Mighty String and his band are playing shows in and around Lisbon, raising funds to record his first EP, and producing a mockumentary comically romanticizing his songwriting process.
