Substance aka DJ Pete É mais ou menos consensual dizer que o techno nasceu em Detroit nos anos 80. Mas foi em Berlim, no início dos anos 90, que a Basic Channel ensinou ao techno o poder da repetição, através de uma mutação abençoada por Jeff Mills ou Carl Craig. Por sua vez, foi na Basic Channel que teve origem uma das mais duradouras mitologias do techno, com a tradição dos white label com escassíssima informaçao prensada à mão, e a fundação da “escola”/”instituição” Hardwax, pela mão dos próprios Basic Channel O convidado desta S T A R D U S T B A L L S, DJ Pete, aka Substance, aka Peter Kuschnereit, é talvez o mais respeitado discípulo desta mitologia. E não é respeitado só pelos fãs de techno, mas pelos seus próprios originadores. Ele trabalha na Hardwax quase desde a sua fundação, e lá continua. Ele foi, com o seu parceiro René Lowe, enquanto metade da dupla Substance & Vainqueur, um dos mais bem sucedidos artistas da continuação da Basic Channel, a Chain Reaction. Ele foi, enfim, o único artista autorizado por Moritz Von Oswald e Mark Ernestus (além dos referidos Mills e Craig) a mexer na música da Basic Channel, com o esmagador mix-CD Scion Arrange and Process Basic Channel Tracks. É desde sempre o curador da festa e podcast oficiais da Hardwax, Wax Treatment. Remisturou Surgeon, Shed, Monolake, Scuba, Function, Marcel Dettmann, Robert Hood… é enfim um dos nomes mais fulcrais da história do techno, tendo moldado de forma indelével muito do que escutamos hoje em dia em clubes pelo mundo fora, noite após noite. DJ Pete é, ele mesmo, por tudo isto, um mito. A oportunidade de escutar DJ Pete não é só um pretexto para revisitar o passado do techno. É muito mais do que uma trip nostálgica. É em simultâneo uma afirmação da força do seu presente e um vislumbre do seu futuro. Porque DJ Pete sempre esteve um passo à frente. A Hardwax tem um nome para os raros discos que são realmente melhores que todos os outros : “Killer!”. The guest for this S T A R D U S T B A L L S, DJ Pete, aka Substance, aka Peter Kuschnereit, is probably the most respected disciple of this mythology. And he´s not just respected by techno fans, but also by it´s own originators. He works at Hardwax almost since the start, and he´s still there. He was, along with his partner René Lowe, as half of the duo Substance & Vainqueur, pne of the most successful artists of the continuation of Basic Channel, Chain Reaction. He was, tellingly, the only artist after Mills and Craig, the only artist authorized by Moritz and Mark Ernestus themselves, to touch the Basic Channel canon, through the stunning Scion Arrange and Process Basic Channel Tracks. He has been, from the beginning the curator of the official Hardwax party and podcast, Wax Treatment. He remixed Surgeon, Shed. Monolake, Scuba, Function, Marcel Dettmann, Robert Hood… He is, finally, one of the most fulcral names in techno history, having shaped much of what we listen to in clubs around the world, night after night. DJ Pete is himself, for all these reasons, a myth. This opportunity of hearing DJ Pete is not just an excuse to revisit techno´s past. It´s much more than a nostalgia trip. It´s simultaneously a statement to the power of it´s present and a glimpse of it´s future. Because DJ Pete has always been a step ahead.
