Joey Anderson Quando era miúdo, em New Jersey, EUA, Joey era um house dancer. Daqueles que se reunia com os amigos em círculos na rua, para se desafiarem a sacar os melhores “moves”. E era de certeza dos bons, porque quando ouvimos as suas produções, percebemos que é preciso uma destreza fora de série para acompanhar com o corpo, tudo aquilo que se passa na sua música. E ela é tão desafiante para o corpo como para a cabeça, um jogo de espelhos onde nem tudo é o que parece. É house, mas provavelmente nunca ouviram house assim. Modesto e terra-a-terra (mas com a mente no espaço…) Anderson talvez tremesse com esta comparação, mas é como se Sun Ra tivesse decidido fazer house. Mística, cósmica, psicadélica, iluminada, é assim a música que Joey começou por nos dar pela mão de DJ Qu, impulsionada por Levon Vincent no seu Fabric 63 e albergada, entre outras, na Dekmantel, claro, que pôs na rua o espantoso LP “After Forever”. Música única, que nos faz sentir sós e ligados a todo o Universo ao mesmo tempo. Música onde nos perdemos e que nos leva a outro lugar, dançando pelo cosmos fora, como Joey Anderson gosta, sem sair do Lux. Juju & Jordash Não é exagero dizer que sem a dupla Juju & Jordash, a Dekmantel não seria exactamente o que é, nem estes dois alucinados israelitas radicados em Amesterdão, Jordan Czamanski e Gal Aner, estariam onde estão. Foi para editá-los que a Dekmantel se estabeleceu como editora, e foi na Dekmantel que eles lançaram a maioria dos seus trabalhos, principalmente os seus 3 LPs, o último dos quais, Clean Cut, ainda reluz de novidade. A simbiose é tal que de certa forma, a música da dupla é a tradução sonora perfeita da filosofia e estética Dekmantel. Uma salada Waldorf de sons, excêntrica, livre, mas cuidadosamente empratada, feita na hora recorrendo ao corte e costura preciso de improvisações extraídas do arsenal de maquinaria analógica de que se costumam munir em estúdio e ao vivo (por vezes levadas a cabo com Move D enquanto Magic Mountain High). Techno, house, jazz, electro, acid, e coisas para as quais ainda não se inventou nome, acabam num preparado viciante que, como aconselha o título do próximo EP que vão lançar na Dekmantel, é para ser consumido até à beata (“Down To The Roach”). E para ser consumido, mas por cá, sem filtros, no Lux. Dekmantel Soundsystem A história do Dekmantel Soundsystem, e da própria label Dekmantel, é a história de um pequeno bando de ravers que em poucos anos se viram ao leme de uma das marcas mais reconhecíveis e reconhecidas do house e techno europeus. Ao leme, ou aos pedais, como numa bicicleta, porque Casper, Jan e Thomas , os 3 DJs que compõe esta troupe, são holandeses e gente de poucas ostentações. Depois de anos a passar fins de semana em Amsterdão para ir dançar, para lá se mudaram, mas rapidamente concluíram que nada do que lá se fazia estava mesmo à altura dos seus gostos no mínimo ecléticos e cultivados e decidiram que tinham de ser eles a fazer festas como achavam que uma festa se deve fazer. O que se seguiu, nos últimos 8 anos, entre mais festas, edições discográficas, e a jóia da coroa, o Dekmantel Festival, passou a ser sinónimo acima de tudo, de uma coisa. Boa música. Muito boa, aliás. E quase inclassificável estilisticamente, mas quem compra um disco da Dekmantel ou ouve uma actuação do Dekmantel Soundsystem, fá-lo à confiança. Porque se eles querem ter algo bem feito, fazem-no eles próprios, sempre ravers antes de tudo. Eles gostam de festa? Festejemos, então. The type that would gather around in circles with his friends, and they´d throw challenges at each other to see who could come up with the best moves. And he was probably a good one, because when we listen to his productions, we realize you need unusual dexterity to get your body to be able to respond to the myriad of ideas in his music. And it is as challenging to the mind as it is to the body, a hall of mirrors where nothing is as it seems. It´s house, but you´ve never heard it done quite like this. Modest and down to earth (but with a spacey mind…), Joey Anderson would probably shake off the comparison, but it´s as if Sun Ra decided to do house music one day. Mystical, cosmic, psychedelic and enlightened, such is the music Joey started off putting out with DJ Qu´s incentive, which was championed by Levon Vincent in his Fabric 63 CD, and which found a home, amongst others, at Dekmantel, who put out is mind--blowing “After Forever” album in 2014. Music that makes you feel alone yet connected with the whole universe at the same time. Music where you lose yourself inside and it takes you to another place, while you dance through the cosmos, as Joey likes to do, without leaving Lux. JUJU & JORDASH It´s no exaggeration to say that without the duo Juju & Jordash, Dekmantel wouldn´t be exactly what it is, neither these two crazy Amsterdam-based israelis, Jordan Czamanski and Gal Aner, would be where they are now. Dekmantel established itself as a label precisely to release their music, and it was with Dekmantel that they released most of it, especially their albums, of which the latest, Clean Cut, is still shiny brand new. The symbiosis is so perfect that, in a way, their music is the perfect transposition to sound, of Dekmantel´s attitude and aesthetic. A real sonic Waldof Salad, excentric and free, but carefully put on our plate, freshly made by extracting the best morsels out of long improvisations created from the veritable arsenal of analog machinery they usually carry to the studio or in a live setting (sometimes complemented by Move D as Magic Mountain High). Techno, house, jazz, electro, acid, and stuff for which there´s not even a name yet, end up in an addictive mix, which, as the title of their upcoming EP on Dekmantel suggests, should be consumed “Down To The Roach”. And that´s what we´re about to do at Lux, but with no filter. DEKMANTEL SOUNDSYSTEM The story of Dekmantel Soundsystem, and the Dekmantel label itself, is the story of a small band of ravers who in just a few years became the men at the helm of one of the most recognizable and recognized brands in european house and techno. At the helm, or at the pedals, like in a bike, because Casper, Jan and Thomas, the 3 DJs that make up this troupe, are dutch and people of little ostentation. After years spent travelling on weekends to Amsterdam, to go dancing, they finally moved there, but quickly realized that there was nothing there exactly up to the standard of their eclectic and cultivated tastes and decided that they had to throw parties the way they thought a party should be done. What happened in the following 8 years, amidst more parties, releasing records, and their crown jewel, the Dekmantel Festival, became synonymous of one thing most of all : great music. Really great music, in fact. And almost unclassifiable, stylistically, but whoever buys a Dekmantel record or listens to a Dekmantel Soundsystem set, does it with complete trust.
