THE GLASS MENAGERIE by Tennessee Williams

THE GLASS MENAGERIE by Tennessee Williams

“I didn't go to the moon, I went much further — for time is the longest distance
between two places.” Tom Wingfield

The play is memory, a poet’s memory – of his life, his mother and his sister. A story about leaving… Or rather, about what you want, what you have to and what you can never leave behind; about family, dreams and escape.

Premiering in Chicago, in 1944, The Glass Menagerie went on to win the New York Drama Critics Circle Award in 1945. It was the play that launched Tennessee Williams into fame and, along with its follow up, Streetcar Named Desire, rightly established Williams’ reputation as one of the greatest American playwrights of all time. A work with strong autobiographical influences, but then again, it was of Tennessee Williams that Elia Kazan said: “Everything in his life is in his plays, and everything in his plays is in his life”…

The theatrical challenge of a lifetime, brought to you by the team that was behind such successful Lisbon Players’ productions as Relatively Speaking, Hay Fever and Pygmalion.

Directed by António Carlos Andrade; starring Celia Williams, Elizabeth Bochmann, Gonçalo Cabral and Tomás Anderson; and designed by Alexandra Bochmann.
