IDJUT BOYS Idjut Boys conseguem como poucos provocar reacções intensas e genuínas à simples menção do seu nome. O duo inglês atingiu com toda a justiça um estatuto lendário, assente em mais de 20 anos de actividade pautada por nos habituar, em tudo, à extrema qualidade. Conheceram-se enquanto frequentadores das mesmas pistas e, à força de ouvirem uma e outra vez DJ Harvey em festas cruas em quintas e armazéns, deram por si a dar seguimento ao que ali se passava. Aprenderam a mover-se por dedicação e a perderem dinheiro, dizem, mas quando fizeram o primeiro EP viram-no rapidamente adoptado por François Kevorkian. O ano era 1993 e estrearam assim a U-Star, primeira de três editoras que formariam (as outras sendo a Noid e a Droid). A discografia que se seguiu, e segue, é um caso sério em que nos podemos perder – ou encontrar - em horas de deleite com a música. Três álbuns, incontáveis singles, colaborações e remisturas para gigantes como o já mencionado Harvey, Dimitri From Paris, Chez Damier, Chicken Lips, com a lista a continuar no mesmo gabarito. A fórmula do sucesso? Talvez não haver fórmula fixa. Explorações tanto no estúdio como nas cabines onde as linhas tradicionais do Disco se mutam e abraçam o mundo inteiro, levando-nos a conhecer uma história onde guitarras, sintetizadores, caixas de ritmos, vozes e todas as outras colagens de sons assumem uma proporção psicadélica, sensual e inebriante, a rebentar de groove por todos os poros e com um pé no House e no Funk. The English duo has achieved in, with all fairness, a legendary status, seated in more than 20 years of work in which they have accustomed us to utmost quality.They met while attending the same dancefloors and, from going over and over again to the same DJ Harvey parties in farmland and warehouse, they decided to have a go at it. Motivated by dedication, they say in the beginning they learned to lose money, but when they produced their first EP it was quickly adopted by François Kevorkian. The year was 1993 and thus they launched U-Star, the first of three labels they would own (the others being Noid an Droid). The following discography is perfect to get lost in music for hours at an end. Quando nos anos 90 a força do House e do Techno desvaneceu das suas próprias cidades-origem de Chicago e Detroit, Nova Iorque manteve-se firme com movimentos e pessoas-chave que ajudaram a assegurar que nem só na Europa o caminho seguia em frente. Eric “Dr Dunks” Duncan foi uma destas figuras. Talvez não o conheçam pelo nome próprio. Mas os mais atentos – ate os mais desatentos! – estarão no mínimo familiarizados com o nome Rub n' Tug. Ou com Still Going. Eric é metade de cada um destes duos. Com Thomas Bullock é Rub n' Tug, uma das duplas mais prolíficas em remisturas de que há memória em anos recentes: re-incendiaram faixas de Coldplay, Beastie Boys, Sly Mongoose, Shit Robot, The Glimmers ou Prins Thomas. E como Still Going, com Olivier Spencer, esteve activo na DFA Records e a remisturar desde Crazy P a Bryan Ferry.Terminadas as apresentações dos galões e medalhas, importa reter que Eric Duncan tem bem enraizado o que é a festa e o que é fazer-nos mexer com total abandono. Disco, House, Funk, tudo linguagens que se unem sem esforço para uma rica demonstração do mais puro espírito da música de dança: divertida, despretensiosa, suja e bonita, ao mesmo tempo. When in the 90s House and Techno started to fade from their hometowns Chicago and Detroit, New York stayed strong with musical movements and key people who helped assure that not only Europe would keep the path moving forward. Eric “Dr Dunks” Duncan was one of these people. Maybe you don't know him by name. But those in the know – hey, even the distracted ones – will probably have heard of Rub n' Tug, or Still Going: Eric is half of each of these duos. With Thomas Bullock he's Rub n' Tug, one of the most prolific duos in the remixing business lately, having kindled a new fire to tracks from Coldplay, Beastie Boys, Sly Mongoose, Shit Robot, The Glimmers or Prins Thomas.
