Jennifer Cardini formou-se a tocar sets de noite inteira nos suados clubes de Paris, quando o ar condicionado desistia de funcionar a meio e a energia electrificante se sentia a pairar no ar entre batidas, preenchendo os poucos espaços livres entre os que populavam a pista de dança. Foi neste ambiente cru que se rendeu cada vez mais – e fez render – à melancolia e sentimento que foi encontrando na música electrónica. Das residências no Le Pulp e no famigerado Rex Club saltou para Colónia, onde depressa encontrou poiso por entre a família Kompakt. Não é difícil perceber porquê: Jennifer alia o minimalismo esperado de uma boa aluna da “escola” alemã, com uma queda para as tais melodias por vezes espartanas mas sempre cativantes, com a década de 80 com influências declaradas nas escolhas musicais. Numa atitude pouco comum, diz-se demasiado tímida para tocar as suas próprias produções, mas compôs com o compatriota Shonky um dos hinos máximos do hedonismo “clubber” da última década: Tuesday Paranoia, na Crosstown Rebels. Talvez esta timidez musical justifique que entre as mais de 30 edições da sua própria editora, a Correspondant, apenas uma seja sua: o resto do catálogo fica entregue a outros gigantes como Roman Flugel ou The Hacker. House, Techno, até mesmo uma sensibilidade de ido Electro, Jennifer Cardini não será acanhada quando chegar a hora de fazer abanar Santa Apolónia. It was in this raw environment that she surrendered – and provoked surrender – to the feeling and melancholy that was found in electronic music. From residencies at Le Pulp and famous Rex Club, she jumped to Cologne, where she soon found herself deep in the Kompakt family. It’s not hard to figure out why: Jennifer allies the expected minimalism of the German school of sound with a tendency for those sometimes Spartan but always captivating melodies, with the 80s being a declared influence on her musical choices. In an uncommon attitude, she says she’s too shy to play out her own musical productions, but has partnered up with Shonky to deliver one of last decade’s clubber hedonism anthems: Tuesday Paranoia, on Crosstown Rebels. Perhaps this musical shyness justifies the fact that among the more than 30 releases on her own label Correspondant, only one is hers: the rest of the catalogue lies in the hands of giants such as Roman Flugel or The Hacker.
